Discover the Difference: Fjordsafari vs. Fjordsafari Extended
One of our most frequently asked questions is: “What’s the difference between the Fjordsafari and Fjordsafari Extended tours?”
While both of these tours offer a journey through some of Norway’s most stunning fjords, here are a few differences that might help you decide which tour is right for you.
Fjordsafari: A glimpse of the fjords
The Fjordsafari is a 1 hour and 30-minute tour, perfect for those who want to experience the breath taking fjords in a shorter time frame. Priced at 850 NOK per adult and 625 NOK for children aged 4-14 (infants 0-3 years ride free on a parent’s lap), this tour is ideal for anyone on a tighter schedule.
On this tour, you’ll travel through the beautiful Aurlandsfjord and reach the entrance of the UNESCO-listed Nærøyfjord. The turning point for this tour is Sagfossen, an impressive and scenic waterfall (see map below). Here, you’ll enjoy a beautiful view into the World Heritage site Nærøyfjorden.
Along the way, we’ll make several stops to get closer to nature, look for local wildlife, and listen to our guide’s stories about the area.
Fjordsafari Extended: A deeper dive into Fjordland
For those looking for a more comprehensive experience, the Fjordsafari Extended is the perfect choice. This 2 hour and 15-minute tour costs 1010 NOK per adult and 750 NOK for children aged 4-14 (infants 0-3 years ride free on a parent’s lap). It offers everything the shorter tour does, plus more.
The Fjordsafari Extended takes you further into the fjord system, covering approximately 80 km of stunning scenery. You’ll journey through the entire Aurlandsfjord and Nærøyfjord, all the way to the famous Viking village of Gudvangen where the boat turns around and slowly heads back (see map below). This extended tour allows more time to admire the stunning landscapes, hear more stories from your guide, and perhaps even spot more wildlife along the way.
What Both Tours Offer
Regardless of which tour you choose, both the Fjordsafari and Fjordsafari Extended will give you a personal and close-up experience of the fjords. Our RIB boats are designed for small groups, ensuring that you get the most out of your adventure. You’ll get to see spectacular natural sights, spot wildlife, and enjoy multiple stops where our knowledgeable guides will share local tales and historical insights.
Both tours are designed as soft adventures, making them suitable for almost everyone, from families with young children to older adults.
