FjordSafari boat tour in summer, Aurlandsfjord, fjord adventure

Why do we care

FjordSafari get born in 2003 by pure love for the fjord landscape and culture. Aurlandsfjord and Næroyfjord was about to get recognised by UNESCO World Heritage and it was time to show and prove uniqueness of this place.

First product - 4h long boat tour, developed in close collaboration with local community in Undredal to promote goat farming and cheese making culture which also recently (2024) got added to UNESCO. For many years we operated in summer season only. Throughout decades of relentless work but steady development, today we are proud to provide boat tours and land based activities whole year round.

Authenticity, respect, collaboration and love has been main pillars which made FjordSafari Norway AS what it is today - professional, passionate and *EKTE tourism player in one of the most epic natural landscape in the world!

How do we contribute?

We are closely working with local suppliers in local food, sale, and cooperation.

For land-based tours, we have invested in an electrical 9 seat car to use on our tours both summer and winter.

Regarding our boats we have developed a way of driving that reduce consumption of fuel up to 20% which also prolongs lifespan of engine and sterndrive parts.

The company is also reducing printed paper by choosing digital systems for accounting and documents, as well as paperless tickets for our guests.

Whenever possible, we repair, focus on reusable products and rechargeable batteries.

All our boat driver guides are trained in how to behave on the fjord regarding wildlife and how to reduce waves to not damage shoreline and disturb wildlife. Our boats also have noise-absorbing engine rooms to avoid noise pollution for both guests and the local communities living by the side of the fjord.

Everything we as humans do has an impact on environment. We keep this in mind every time developing a new product whether it is a hike, local farm visit or a boat tour. Therefore we try to minimise our impact on nature by following “leave no trace” principles, ideally leaving nothing but footprints.

Interaction with wildlife is another important factor we consider dearly. No animal should change their behavious because of us. It is one of the reasons we prefer and operate with small groups only. Our guides gets trained how to behave in when wildlife is met and we pass this knowledge further to our guests.

Eco-Lighthouse certified

FjordSafari Norway AS was certified as Eco-lighthouse in March 2022. Our main goal for this achievement is a strong focus on the work environment for all our employees, regarding both safety and health issues. As a supplier of local activities to visiting travelers, we are obliged to follow regulations regarding our impact on the environment. We urge to contribute to the local society in a positive manor only.

We follow “leave no trace” principle to minimise impact on environment and always use local vendors to ensure an authentic experience for our visitors to the area. Both management and employees will work together to ensure sustainability for the company and local environment.

FjordSafari plans ahead and always develops and improves for better client experience and respect to nature.

Long-term perspective

Regarding sustainability our main goals are focusing on resources we already have internally in company with highly qualified and experienced staff to optimise efficiency. Also continue work with Eco-lighthouse guidelines and collaborate more with locally based businesses.

Sustainability has become continuous topic in our team meetings and our aim is to emphasise it even more to become better place for our employees, our clients, our community and environment.

And it’s good to remember - we all are in the same boat, only together we can pave a solid path to more responsible and sustainable future.
