NÆRØYFJORD RIB, HIKE & CRUISE
Practical information
Join an unforgettable experience in one of the worlds’ most beautiful natural and cultural areas. Explore the UNESCO World Heritage listed Nærøyfjord on a guided half-day excursion from Flåm that combines two fantastic boat trips and hiking along the Royal Postal Road – a hidden treasure in the World Heritage area, only accessible by boat.
The guided half-day excursion starts with a thrilling FjordSafari tour through the Aurlandsfjord and the Nærøyfjord before continuing a 5.5km hike on the Royal Postal Route along the World Heritage fjord. The experienced guide ensures everyone is comfortable and adds an extra dimension to the excursion by sharing local knowledge and stories while passing steep mountain sides, wild valleys, and spectacular waterfalls. Enjoy a relaxing and environmentally friendly fjord cruise on your return to Flåm aboard a fully electric ferry that glides silently through the fjord.
The Royal Postal Road
The old postal route between Oslo and Bergen passed through the Nærøyfjord and it was the local farmers’ duty to transport the mail, usually by boat. During winter when the fjord was covered by ice, the Royal Postal Road was a crucial part of the route to maintain the postal connection between east and west. Now, the Royal Postal Road is a hidden treasure that allows us to experience the natural beauty of the World Heritage Site.
The hike is considered moderately demanding and is approximately 5.5km long between the starting point Bleiklindi and the ending point Styvi. The path runs along the side of the fjord.
